Trouble Spot Tuesday

Sorry I'm so late posting...I have so many ideas and projects I was having trouble choosing one. :)  I thought why not talk about "trouble spots" to decorate.  We all have them some more than others.  But there is one in particular that most of us have in common...the area above the toilet.  Yep, that is a very odd place to accessorize.  Do you do like most and just hang a picture there or a shelf or nothing because you just don't know what to do.  Well I have been there and done that...until I decided to think outside of the box.
This is what I came up with.  I already had the towel bar so I just looked for fingertip towels that when with the look I was going for.  As you all know initials  are VERY popular and I love the look so I went with that.  I also added a regular towel as a "base".  Below the towels I used a planter that was not in use anymore and just rolled up wash clothes and placed then inside.  I like the look because it is something different and fun...who knows I may find another towel to add to the collection too.  Next time you have a "trouble spot" try to come up with something different.

Making it My style

While  making my usual trip to TJMaxx...one of my favorite stores..I can accross this sign.  It was cute but NOT me....way too primitive.  But after seeing the $7 sale tag I thought hey I can make this into MY style. So after brainstorming I came up with this..
I started by painting the middle with cream craft paint, then I used my Cricut to cut out vinyl letters/numbers placed it where I wanted it then painted over it with black paint.  Incase you were wondering....1999 was the year we got married.  But you could use just the numbers or last name...the sky is the limit.  The best part is that it only took about 20 mins. to create and it only cost $7!

Coffee Anyone?

Over the weekend I got the idea to make a coffee bar...what a great way to make the Keurig look better with my decor!!  So I started by searching Pinterest for a vintage coffee label...this is what I found.
Love the colors and style of this label.  I already had the black frame so all I did was print it out on cardstock and put it in the frame.  Nothing better than a great FREE image in an existing frame!
So while I was trying to make the K-Cups look better I thought of a serving tray/bowl set I already had that was taking up space in the cabinet.  We already had the K-Cup storage thing and too many
K-Cups to fit in the cute containers so I just left it as is.  I tried to add a lamp but it was not working for me so at some point I would like to add some under cabinet lighting.  But for now it works.  For Winter I will be changing out the coffee image for Hot Chocolate.

Ceiling Tin

Who says you can't decorate under a bar?  When we built our house we soon realized that our kitchen bar was not going to be used to eat at for two reasons...1.  It was a high traffic area and the bar stools would just be in the way..2.  Our countertop guy shorted us on the overhang.  So...I decided I was going to make the best of it, I found this wonderful old ceiling tin sheet that my hubby framed out for me and we hung it up under the bar.  (We attached hangers on the back since it covers a wall plug.)

DIY Chalk Board

As I'm sure you have noticed chalk boards are very popular...I have been looking for just the right piece to transform and finally found it.  What better than a 1980's calendar frame!!!  As you can see it is UGLY so it needed some help!!!!
First thing I did was take the back off and painted the frame with Heirloom White..my favorite!!  Then I put 2 coats of chalk borad paint on the back.  Added a Longaberger basket and some flowers I already had and it's done!! (the flowers are not that large in preson!!)  I have it in my kitchen and we use it all the time to keep up with what we having going on!!!  And the best part is that the frame was $5 and I already had everything else!!!
