Holiday Home Tour 2012

Welcome to my Holiday Home Tour!
Tonight I will feature the inside and save the outside for another day!
First we will start with the Family Room
Our tree it not a theme its just ornaments we have collected over the years.  Most of them were bought for special events or we just liked them.  A lot of them are blown glass...that is my favorite!
The mantle this year seems to be a work in progress...some parts I really like some.the stocking hangers..not to sure about.  I love them but the gold it throwing me off...may have to break down and paint them off white.  Will see. :)
I also love to hang stockings in other areas...
I also had to add this cute vintage looking image with my blown glass tree..

Next room will be the Kitchen...The Gingerbread Tree.
This is one of my favorite trees.  I also love the Gingerbread House candle holder...
It is really large and the "smoke" goes out the chimney! :)
Another favorite is the vintage ornaments that are on the coffee table!
Even though the bowl is almost full I still pick them up when I am out shopping.
The Dining Room...
Love the red with the white!  Again ornaments and a vintage Santa mug.
The Guest Room...
If you have been following me on Facebook you may remember this tree.  The tree is a great reproduction I found at Laurie Anna's in Canton, TX. and I have filled it with Christmas family photos.  I "hung" them using mini wooden clothes pins.
We also have a tree in our daughter's bathroom & bedroom.  I will post those once they are finished.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my home.  If you follow me on Facebook I would love for you to post photos of your home. Also stay tuned I will be having another giveaway! :)

Guest Room Tree

Happy Monday!!  Hope you had a great weekend!
As you all know I have been working on my holiday decorations, so I thought I would give you a tour as I get things done. :)
First room...The Guest Room.  As you know that room is all family items so I continued that with the tree.
So I took family photos and reduced them in size and attached them with mini clothes pins.
Here is a close up.
Will be posting soon on the Gingerbread Tree in the kitchen...stay tuned.

Good Morning!! Hope you are having a great weekend!!  I had a great day yesterday in Canton with lots of great vintage & vintage "looking" finds!!  Also had fun with family and got to meet some family for the first time!
On to my treasures...my First stop in Canton is always LaurieAnna's Vintage Home.  You have to check out her page...http://laurieannas.blogspot.com/  her shoppe and home are to die for!!!  I will also have a special post just about her...stay tuned. :)  But for now here are a few things I bought at her shoppe...
When I saw the trees I HAD to have them!!! The pitcher I already had.  The ornaments are mercury glass..the Santa is so cute!!!  I will be putting the taller tree in our guest room with vintage ornaments on it. :)
I also found these at Trade Days...
2 knives..I have a crock of them in our kitchen. :)  I always look for handle designs I don't have and these were super cheap!  I LOVE child sized wooden shoe forms..I have a super cute pair in our living room.  The tiny vintage ornament is in mint condition!!  The crock will go with the small collection I have in our kitchen.  And the door will be painted...stay tuned for that post.  I also got some Christmas gifts.  So I would say I have a great day looking for treasures!!

Problem Areas?

Good Evening!  Hope you had a great week.  I have been very sick but seem to be getting better thanks to breathing treatments every 4 hours!!  Anyway...I know we all have "problem areas" around our home as of right now I would say mine are 2 spots above my kitchen cabinets.  As many of you all know our home is French Country so keeping with the look of the rest of our home I have ceiling tin, platters, family items (antique crock Great Grandmothers) and other items I love.  In the kitchen/breakfast nook area I have kept with cream, black and touches of red.  This are has more cream..sorry photos is not great. :)
The large crock on the far right was my Great Grandmothers she used it to pickle things. :)  The other items I just like yep there is ceiling tin. :)
One thing I do plan on doing is adding another picnic basket on top of the one that is already up there..will help add some height.  The large wooden spool was also my Great Grandmother's and I just like the teapot and clock.
This area I like..vintage scale with vintage bowl of apples and planter with antique rolling pins I have collected.
Insert "problem area" #1  area above vent....
So far I have come up with either a large scroll iron or wood plaque or I like the idea of either EAT or YUM letters in either black or cream...here are some pics I found on Pinterest.
I also like the idea of a key...of course it would have to hang horizontal.
But I also LOVE the idea ceiling tin. :)  I know you are in total shock. LOL  It does go with the rest of our home.
Just to the right of the vent is problem area #2...
Love the decorative finials but I think either iron plaque or maybe an old window on the wall behind them would help.  I will remove the ivy also...just needed something up there when we put them up there 7 yrs ago. :)
Everything does not look so washed out in person.

Any thoughts on this would be great...also what are your "problem areas"?
Hope you have a great Friday.

Guest Room

Good Morning!!  Sorry for such a long delay in posts we have had company and I was having trouble uploading photos.  Well as promised I will be talking about our guest room...there are a few little things I would like to do still but for the most part its finished.  As you may remember 99% of the items  in this room belonged to family members. Warning...this will be a long post!!
This is the start to the wall of mirrors...the tall one on the right belonged to a close family friend..its dated 1923 on the back of the mirror.  Also the chest of drawers and rocker belonged to the same family friend.  The chest was in our daughter's bedroom when she was a baby & I had the rockers seat recovered with a vintage bedspread.  Here is a better view of them both....

The wall next to the rocker is where I have vintage family cross stitches hanging...the one in the middle was made by my Grandmother almost 70 yrs ago, the ones on each end my mother made years ago.
This wall ties in nicely to the cross stitched days of the week hand towels my grandmother made years ago.  As you can see I just draped them over the drape rod to make a valance.
Above the bed I have 2 baby gowns my grandmother made, a few of my grandmother's figurines and a few other things that I just like. :)
On the bed I have an 1976 calendar tea towel that I had made into a decorative pillow...the colors work perfect in there!  The fabric I choose to make the back and ruffle with is blue ticking.  Also the quilt that is on the foot of the bed was my grandparents....they used it for family outings.  The bench that is at the foot of the bed was my mom's..my grandfather made it for her when she was little.  I just recovered it and made the skirt for it also out of the same blue ticking.
On the small wall next to the bedroom door I have my great grandmother's sewing machine.  I am still looking for one of the drawers and the top needs to be refinished but I love the history of it.  On the top of it I have a photo of my grandmother and great grandmother along with a vase that belonged to my great grandmother and the clock was a wedding gift we received.
On the wall above the sewing machine I have the magnetic board I made a few months ago.  Using an old window frame and blue ticking.  With a few family photos.
I think that pretty much sums it up.  Hope you enjoyed the tour.
Stay tuned for a giveaway soon!!!
Hope you have a great week!

Guest Room Mirror Wall...Inspiration

Hope you had a great weekend!!  Sorry I have not posted in a while...I have been working on several projects.  One that I will share my inspiration photos of are for our guest room.  I am working on a mirror wall for this room.  I have antiques in this room and 95% are from our family members.  Since I am not done with it I will be posting photos of mirror walls I love!!!

I love the idea of adding hand mirrors to the collection!!!  When I found the image below I fell in love with the look..........
I am on the hunt for a few hand mirrors now to finish my wall....as soon as I get it finished I will post photos.  I will also be writing a post about our guest room soon!!  Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do and hope you have a great Monday!!

Simple White Pumpkins

Good Evening!!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Tonight I want to share with you a Fall display I have been working on.  As many of you know our dining room has a lot of white in it.  So I wanted to stay with that color palette with my Fall decor as well.  The only problem with that is most of the white pumpkins I found were either more money than I wanted to spend or not a true white.  So as I was getting my Fall decor out I found a few pumpkins that would look great in there but the wrong color...
As you can see the one on the right is BRIGHT orange and the other one is not too bad but still not white!!  So while I was at Wal-Mart I found these cute little pumpkins..."kinda" white but still not right...but I thought for $1 each I could fix that!!
So to get the color/look I wanted I just used white spray paint...ta da..White Pumpkins!!!!
They were super easy to do...I put tape around the stems so they would stay brown then I wore a rubber glove so I could twirl them as I painted.  They dried really fast and seems like the paint will hold up for a few seasons.  I love how they turned out!!
I am still adding to my display but it's a start!!

Old Bottles + Burlap + Buttons

Hope you are having a great Labor Day weekend.  I have been busy addeing more Fall decorations to my house.  I also did a few simple/fast projects!!  First I started with some old brown bottles...I paid about $1 for each one at a local antique mall.  Placed them under a cloche I already had.  But after looking at them I thought they looked a little "naked".
So I decided to go thru my stash of vintage buttons I got from my aunt.  There were so many to choose from but I was trying to stay with something that went together but was different.  Also I had some burlap left from some other projects....
Sorry the last two didn't turn out very well...the 1st and 3rd buttons have rhinestones on them the middle does not.  Now they look a little more "dressed" and I thought the burlap would be a great texture.  also I cna keep these out during the year since they are not specific to Fall.  I just love the way they turned out. :)
